Tamara Newman Varela, a lawyer from Peaflor, Chile, was attending a court hearing when she heard a continuous and loud meowing coming from outside the courtroom. Concerned for the animal’s welfare, she left the courtroom and encountered a mother cat who introduced her kitten to Tamara.
Tamara was shown a kitten with ruptured eyes due to an infection. As a result of her emotional state and the fact that no one was taking action, she decided to rescue the kitten herself.
On October 25, 2018, Tamara came to the aid of a mother cat and her kitten. She gave them the names Agata and Chispita, the latter of which translates to “little spark” in Spanish. Veterinarian examination revealed that both cats were gravely ill. Chispita was approximately three weeks old, whereas Agata was approximately five years old and pregnant.
Tamara was eager to help the mother cat and her kitten, but her spouse was opposed to adding more pets to their household. Tamara was still grieving the loss of her beloved pet cat. However, as a mother herself, she could comprehend Agata’s predicament and the urgency with which she sought assistance for her children.
Tamara recalls experiencing the same despondency and hopelessness as the individual she was assisting. She realized at that moment that no one could care for them as well as she could, so she welcomed them into her home without hesitation, despite her husband’s disapproval. Instagram user @soyungatociego posted a photo of Agata, a malnourished kitten who was unable to nurse from his mother due to his condition. Tamara, who took in Agata, was required to bottle-feed him and administer multiple medications, including eye drops and oral antibiotics, every few hours for his eye problems. Over the course of a month, this prevented Tamara from leaving her house and sleeping properly. Due to her difficult financial situation, Tamara was forced to solicit assistance and hold raffles.
Unfortunately, Tamara’s efforts to save Chispita’s eyesight were unsuccessful despite her best efforts. Tamara did not abandon the kitten and his mother, however. She labored ceaselessly to restore their health. Despite her initial sadness and disappointment that Chispita would never again be able to see, she soon realized that his inability to see would not prevent him from living a happy life. Tamara shed many tears over the circumstance, but seeing Chispita play and eat with joy warmed her heart.
A few weeks after being rescued by Tamara alongside its mother, Chispita is doing well. Agata gave birth to five adorable kittens in December 2018. Unfortunately, they all became gravely ill shortly after birth, suggesting that Agata may have unknowingly transmitted an infection to her children.
According to Tamara, the efforts to rescue the five kittens were not entirely successful, as three of them died within a week of being born. Due to the administration of antibiotics, however, the remaining two kittens were able to survive. This information was shared by Tamara in response to the feline incident and published on Instagram by @soyungatociego.
The two kittens were able to find loving homes as a result of Tamara’s efforts. Tamara and her family, however, decided to adopt Chispita and his mother, Agata. Over a year has passed, and both cats are thriving. Even though Chispita is blind, he has no trouble navigating the house. The family is pleased to have found loving homes for these cats.
Tamara asserts that blind cats are more independent than the majority of people believe, citing their ability to navigate into bed, use the litter box, climb higher floors and trees, and even hunt flies and insects as evidence.
Despite being blind, this beautiful cat requires little care. With the exception of occasional eye cleaning, Chispita is a low-maintenance and affordable pet. Tamara contends that the common belief that caring for a blind cat is difficult is not entirely accurate. She asserts that consuming Chispita is a unique experience that differs from what most people envision. The cat’s extraordinary vitality emanates love, light, and a strong will to live.
The adorable cat named Chispita is blind, but that does not prevent him from leading a fearless life. Even though he is blind, he enjoys playing with his family’s pets and spending time outdoors under supervision. Chispita’s owner, Tamara, is inspired by his bravery and adventurous spirit. Whenever she looks at him, she is reminded to be courageous and to not let obstacles prevent her from achieving her goals. Chispita is a truly remarkable cat who demonstrates that disabilities do not define one’s identity.
Tamara’s adoption of Chispita, a loving and playful cat with special needs, has provided her with invaluable knowledge. She believes that more individuals should consider adopting cats in similar circumstances. Chispita is like a child to Tamara, and she cannot imagine her life, family, or home without him. Tamara refers to Chispita as her cherished gift, teacher, angel, and infant. She expresses her affection for him at every opportunity.
