Harold was born in a local puppy mill, where mother dogs are confined in small cages and hundreds of puppies are raised for profit.
Due to overbreeding, animals in puppy mills are at a greater risk of developing major birth defects such as heart disease, kidney disease, blood diseases, deafness, and permanent paralysis.
After taking a few infant breaths, Harold was sold to an uninformed buyer for $7,000. Harold’s new owner brought him home and nursed him through an upper respiratory illness.
Then, without warning, Harold lost the use of his hind legs due to spine curvature caused by overbreeding at the puppy mill; the disease is similar to scoliosis and eradicates all sensation in his hindquarters.
The new owner of Harold gave him to Dallas DoggRRR, who rushed him to the emergency animal hospital.
Harold spent two days in the hospital and struggled to eat without vomiting.
During an emergency exploratory operation, doctors discovered ulcerations and a stricture in Harold’s intestines, abdominal adhesions, enlarged lymph nodes, elevated liver levels, and gastro fluid across his abdomen and esophagus.
This young boy has lived at Dallas DogRRR for many years and serves as our rescue’s mascot and social media representative.
“He is a true warrior, but it disgusts us to see him in such agony. We are making every effort to aid Harold.”
