A young guy discovers he can’t marry the lady he loves when he arrives at his fiancée’s grandmother’s house for dinner and is horrified to see a picture of himself on her wall.
Tony had no idea that their romantic relationship would end after they had supper with Carol’s grandma. Before Anthony Udell proposed, he had been dating Carol Frank for three years after they first met in college.
Tony was rather fond to Carol’s parents after meeting them. He needed to seek the matriarch’s blessing now. Carol shot her anxious fiancé a grin. “Slow down, tiger! Grandma is really cute! This will be rather easy to handle! However, it wasn’t. It would have devastating results.
Grandma Emily was informed by Carol’s parents that she was bringing over a “special someone,” but they chose not to reveal the engagement to the young pair. Tony was rather anxious since he had been raised in an orphanage.
With anxiety, he said to Carol, “I hope she likes me.” “You know, I’ve always wanted a family. But I become so anxious.
Sometimes the real world is even weirder than fiction.
“Oh my gosh,” Carol said. “I swear, everything will work out! Gran Emily is easily won over by tall, dark, and attractive males!
When they rang the doorbell when they got to Gran Emily’s house, a happy voice answered and invited them into the garden. Gran Emily had laid the table with her finest china and candles, beneath a charming old tree.
Carol exclaimed, “Gran!” as she rushed to give her grandma a hug. “You’ve been missed!” Her grandma gave her a bear embrace in return and peered over her shoulder at Tony, who was standing there acting bewildered and lost.
“Young man, come over here,” Gran Emily chuckled. “I’m not a biter!” She also kissed and hugged Tony. “Sit down, you two! Carol, I’ve created all of your favorites!
Under the starlight, the three of them conversed and ate for hours. Tony realized the wine bottle was empty as he was going to offer Gran Emily another drink.
“Mrs. Frank,” stated Tony. Is there wine left? Carol and I intended to make an announcement and propose a special toast.
“Obviously, Tony!” said Gran Emily. “The sitting room may be seen as you enter through the kitchen. By the entryway is a wine rack! I’m eager to hear this announcement, so hurry!
Tony entered the little kitchen and made his way straight to the wine rack and sofa. With the wine bottle tucked under his arm, he turned to stroll back outside when something attracted his attention. Over the mantel, there was a picture, and there was something familiar about it.
Tony moved in closer. In front of Gran Emily’s home was a young couple holding a toddler, as shown in the photo. The young youngster had a noticeable birthmark on his small arm and was sporting a short-sleeved shirt.
Tony began to tremble. He removed the picture and examined it thoroughly. It is not possible! With shaky fingers, he undid the cuff and examined the birthmark on his own arm. It matched the boy’s precisely in the picture. He was the one.
Tony took the picture outdoors and took a seat next Grandma Emily. “Mrs. Frank, please,” he pleaded. “Who is this?”
Gran Emily removed the picture from Tony’s grasp. She said, “You shouldn’t have touched this.” This has great value to me. I only have one picture of my grandson Karl.
“Your grandson?” inquired Tony. “Whatever became of him?”
“I don’t discuss it,” remarked Grand Emily. “Please don’t touch it!”
“Tony,” Carol said tremblingly. “It has to do with family.”
“I must be informed,” Tony sobbed. “Please! To me, it holds immense significance.
Gran Emily got to her feet. Her expression was irate. Why, she enquired. “It’s not your concern!”
Tony exposed his arm by pulling back his sleeve. It may be, Mrs. Frank, I believe! I believe I’m the boy in the picture.
Gran Carol was astounded and had to take a seat, as was Emily. She muttered, “My grandson Karl was kidnapped when he was three.” “We spent years looking for him.”
Tony stated, “When I was five years old, I was left at a hospital.” “I was just aware of my name, Tony. I was raised in foster homes by them, but I never thought that We must do a DNA test.
Gran Emily gave a nod. “Yes, and your parents need to be called!”
“My mom and dad?” Tony gestured toward the youthful pair in the picture. These, my parents, are they?
“Oh no!” Carol grinned as she spoke. “Those are your aunt and uncle because they are MY parents. Did you fail to identify them?
Tony gave Carol a quick glance. “Are we related? Me and you both? cousins first?
Gran Emily grinned. “Yes, you and Carol are first cousins if you are Karl.”
Carol said, “Oh!” as she sprang up and hurried into the house while sobbing.
What? Gran Emily enquired. “What did I say?”
Tony declared, “We’re engaged.” “We intended to tie the knot…
“Oh dear,” the grandmother remarked regretfully. “Well Tony, I’m afraid that’s not possible if you are first cousins!”
Tony lowered his head and felt his eyes well up with tears. “However, I adore Carol,” he muttered. “My life’s love is her!” And Tony realized then that in order to realize his ambition of starting a family, he would have to give up Carol, his future wife.
“What about my parents?” he said, turning to face Gran Emily. “Why aren’t THEY in the picture?” he inquired.
Emily grinned. “Oh, that was your birthday! Your uncle and aunt are also godparents, along with Carol’s parents! Your folks currently reside in Iowa. Even though you now have three sisters and a brother, your family has never stopped missing you.
Tony was greeted with open arms by his parents and siblings after the results of the DNA test proved that he was, in fact, Karl Frank, the long-lost young kidnapper.
Though they had to split ways, Tony knew in his heart that he would always love his cousin, even after they saw each other three years later. He wished Carol well as she walked down the aisle at her wedding.
What lessons may we draw from this tale?
Sometimes the real world is even weirder than fiction. Tony thought he was an orphan, until he met and fell in love with his first cousin.
No matter how hard we try, certain dreams are never able to come true. Despite the fact that Carol and Tony were first cousins and so unable to marry, they were deeply in love.
