Miranda, a hardworking young Mexican lady, has challenges when her ex-partner tries to make her feel uncomfortable at work. Miranda is hesitant to answer out of concern for her career, but the pain her ex caused inspires her. She comes up with a plan to wreak revenge on him despite the danger to her status.
Since everyone knew that Miranda and her ex had split up, she fell into a depression. Keeping her work was essential to her survival as an immigrant trying to make a new life for herself in a foreign land. Her problems, though, were never-ending. She had to defend herself in the kitchen to her supervisor, Michael, after arriving late to work one day at her restaurant employment.
“Michael, I really sorry for the wait. A lot has been happening. Miranda quietly said, “My relationship ended, and it’s public knowledge.”
“Miranda, I don’t care about your personal life as long as it doesn’t interfere with your work. I need you prepared to work and on time. “This is your final warning,” Michael firmly declared.
Miranda pledged to make things better, but when she saw her ex-boyfriend Colin and his new partner Leslie eating at the restaurant, things became worse. When she asked Michael to pardon her for serving them, he refused, stressing that he was a professional.
“Miranda, difficulties affect us all. Without opening his eyes, Michael answered, “We’re short-staffed, and I need you to execute your job, not evade them.
With no other option, Miranda served Colin and Leslie, who mistreated her and made fun of her ethnicity.
“Look who’s waiting tables here, Miranda. It appears that those with your background have found a genuine calling in service,” Colin said sarcastically.
Miranda inquired if they were ready to order while masking her discomfort with a false grin.
Miranda picked up Colin’s fork after he purposefully dropped it.
Leslie gave a sarcastic clap as she finished. “Observe Miranda! She is quite good at picking everything up!
Miranda felt even worse because of all the attention she was receiving. Her hands shaking, she returned the fork to Colin. Colin uttered an unconvincing “thank you.” What a great team player.
Miranda, fighting for composure, hurriedly brought their meal—a Mexican stew—in the hopes that they would stop being harsh. Colin, on the other hand, thought the stew was too bland and purposefully dropped his plate, getting Miranda’s clothing dirty.
As she cleaned up, she tried to mask her distress by saying, “It’s fine.” However, Leslie kept laughing, and the looks from bystanders shattered Miranda’s remaining confidence.
Miranda fled to the kitchen and sobbed in a corner after losing control of her cries.
As she sobbed, a voice comforted her. It stated, “Take this here.”
Miranda looked up to see Chef Robert holding out a dish towel. She received the towel with tears in her eyes because of his compassion.
“Miranda, you underestimate your strength. I don’t want to snoop around in your personal affairs. Your perseverance is greater than the challenges you face,” he said.
Miranda spoke in Chef Robert about her history with Colin and the incident that destroyed everything because she felt the need to confide in someone. Colin, who had been her college classmate, had once put pressure on her to skip studying and go to a party, which had unfortunate results.
Miranda described how she was duped by Colin and Leslie, which resulted in her being kicked out of college due to lewd images and videos. Feeling betrayed and alone, Miranda set out to get retribution.
“Robert, would you please make their food really spicy for once?” She begged.
Robert was affected by Miranda’s request and ultimately consented, despite his initial hesitation because of the possible negative effects on the restaurant’s image.
“All right, Miranda. But let’s exercise prudence,” he said.
Miranda made a hot sauce, thinking only on getting even. She gave Robert a napkin soaked in sauce and said, “Use this.”
Leslie sneered when Colin and she were served their food. Is this hot or spicy? “This is how you envision a spicy Mexican stew?” she asked in jest.
But Colin’s response to the spicy handkerchief was instantaneous; his face flushed bright red, and he had trouble breathing.
Leslie patted Colin’s back and said, “Colin, just breathe.” However, Leslie blushed with shame when the diners in the restaurant started to laugh.
She cried out, unable to take the humiliation any longer: “This is terrible! This is it for us! and hurriedly left.
With a faint smile on her lips, Miranda observed without making any noise. Though fate had other ideas, she had observed them enjoy each other’s company and thought they were happy together.
Colin, clearly upset, angrily demanded Miranda’s firing, saying she was interfering with his food. But Michael stepped in and tasted the stew and saw nothing was amiss. “Sir, this food is excellent. Cleverly concealing the spicy napkin, he claimed, “There’s nothing wrong with it.”
Furthermore, Miranda has long been a devoted worker. She wouldn’t purposefully spoil a dinner,” he said, endorsing Miranda. They looked at one other with understanding, appreciative of his help.
Colin searched for assistance but could find none. The other patrons just watched as Leslie departed.
Michael then counseled Colin, saying, “You know, Colin, sometimes the heat comes from how we treat other people, not from the food.” Maybe give that some thought.
Colin remained silent, leaving Miranda with a wave of gratification. She had learned how empathy and compassion could bring people together and had developed a cunning and effective self-defense strategy.
She was reminded by Michael’s defense and his teachings on respect and humility that there are allies everywhere, especially in trying circumstances.
