Giving up your child is one thing, but permanently severing contact with them is quite another. Given how difficult it is to give birth and raise a child, anyone who want to give up their child must have a compelling cause.
You can’t help but agree with the Redditor in today’s article after reading it. Their parents dumped them. To find out if their acts were wrong, the OP shared the story with the AITA subreddit community.
So the OP’s older sister developed a serious illness when the OP was 6 years old, and their parents decided that they couldn’t care for both of them, so they “dumped” the OP at her grandparents’ house. What’s worse, they didn’t tell them they wouldn’t be coming back for them, hence the word “dump,” but the grandparents and uncle explained things to them later on.
The OP was the only one reaching out all the time, so when they decided to stop, communication broke down completely. Now the OP is all grown up, and the uncle has already adopted them as their own, but the OP lost the sister.
Their parents now seek to be close to the OP, but they choose to ignore them. How was this done?
Well, the OP pretended not to know them. Read the entire story for yourself below.
The OP writes:
The OP’s parents didn’t even explain to them what was going on
They sat behind us and I could just feel the stare
Other family members think I was too harsh as they’re grieving
The Reddit post went viral with close 30K upvotes and more than 2K comments. Here are some of the top replies from Redditors
This Redditor is glad the OP has real parents
They don’t deserve to be angry
They probably want to resume contact
Than goodness you have two loving parents
It’s technically correct with the adoption
Trying to reconnect after the other sister died
For this Redditor, this line is a winner
Another Redditor who is glad the OP has lovely parents
You are not your sister’s replacement
Saving the world one day
They are garbage and deserve to know it
They didn’t act as parents for more than a decade
They did this to themselves
Don’t let them use you as a do over
They are not your parents
Your biological parents wants you all of a sudden
This Redditor wished they had the OP’s guts
They don’t deserve a second thought
Time to get a spare out of the closet
You can’t abandon your child for 15 years and expect a warm welcome when you decide to return. The OP has picked the parents who truly supported them, and Redditors don’t think the OP really owes the biological parents an explanation.
