Your life might be either improved or ruined by money. After winning a sizable sum of money in the lottery or as an inheritance, many people are unsure about how to handle their new circumstances.
When your loved ones learn that you have unexpectedly become wealthy, they typically have high expectations for you. Relationships are constantly ruined and the unpleasant reality is revealed by money.
That’s one of the reasons why many people would rather not advertise the fact that they came into some money. Once people find out about it, you could potentially become the first person they resort to when they run out of money.
A Redditor who goes by the username u/MirandaAddison13 made a post on the r/AmItheA**hole subReddit where she explained how her husband and in-laws expected her to foot everyone’s bill at a restaurant. The user recently received an inheritance after her mother’s death and got called pathetic for leaving the restaurant and refusing to pay for everyone.
The r/AmItheA**hole community had a lot of different reactions to the user’s post. Scroll down to check out the full Reddit post, and scroll a little further to read the comments from the original post.

The dinner was going as expected until OP found out they expected her to foot everyone’s bill.
OP got called pathetic for leaving the restaurant and refusing to pay for everyone.
OP was unsure whether she had dealt with the situation appropriately, so she decided to consult with the Reddit community.
OP thinks she might be the a-hole for the following reason:
Here’s how the Reddit community reacted to u/MirandaAddison13’s post:
It’s disgusting that the husband’s family expected her to foot their bill.
The inheritance should be kept as a separate asset.
“Make sure your affairs are legally airtight so he can’t touch it.”
OP doesn’t owe anyone anything and should keep the inheritance to herself.
OP should make the necessary arrangements to protect her money.
That’s not something you casually expect someone to do without informing them beforehand.
OP could have caused a scene but handled the situation properly.
OP’s husband is walking on thing ice.
It’s a desperate attempt to capitalize on the mother’s death.
“The family was wrong to place blame on anyone other than the people who felt entitled to your inheritance.”
After reading the book mentioned in the comment above, OP started having more doubts about her husband.
OP should not combine the inheritance with the rest of their money.
Even if OP won that money, they have no right to behave this way.
Op needs to make sure her inheritance is safe from her husband and his family.
OP should not let her husband control her.
OP should be careful of her in-laws and husband since they seem too fixated on her inheritance. It’s her money, and they have no right to expect her to spend it on them.
