Working from home is not as easy as it seems, especially if you don’t have an independent living situation. Other members of your household often allow themselves to disturb you while working just because you happen to be home.
Some people think that just because you can work from home, you’re allowed to do whatever you want and waste time as you see fit. It’s not a complicated concept, but people still have issues with it.
Frequent disturbances while working from home could either disturb the progress of your work or make you lose motivation. Both are terrible outcomes that everyone tries to avoid.
A Redditor who goes by the username u/Decent-Reputation231 made a post on the r/AmItheA**hole subReddit where she explained how her sister-in-law decided to nap and delegated the babysitting she was supposed to be doing to her 13-year-old son. The user got a knock on her door from the son while working, which made her realize that she needed to address some crucial matters with her in-laws.
The in-laws’ reaction made Op doubt the options she gave them, so she decided to consult with the Reddit community. Scroll down to check out the full Reddit post, and scroll a little further to read the comments from the original post.
Here’s the original post by Reddit user u/Decent-Reputation231:
OP’s husband takes care of the house while she’s at work.
OP made sure to have her in-laws sign a lease before moving in.
OP’s sister-in-law agreed to watch over their youngest but took a nap instead.
The 13-year-old boy knocked on OP’s door because he didn’t want to change the diaper.
OP decided to give her in-laws three options to choose from.
The in-laws didn’t take it well and accused OP of tricking them.
OP feared this day would come, which is why she made them sign a lease.
OP feels she might be the a-hole in this scenario because of the reason below:
Here’s how the Reddit community reacted to u/Decent-Reputation231’s post:
Their reaction to the options OP offered is not a good sign.
OP’s in-laws seem entitled and ungrateful.
There’s a difference between revenue and income.
That’s the best way to describe it.
You can’t take a nap in the middle of babysitting.
“They are two adults. Either they pay rent or they move out.”
OP gave them a good deal, but they’re still complaining.
OP’s work is the only thing putting a roof over their heads.
You expect to find the same babysitter when you come back.
“It seems you might give them the push they need to get their life back together.”
Asking for back lease would be an a-hole move.
Well, this was an interesting story. OP gave her in-laws three options, which is more than anyone would ever offer them, but they were still unhappy.
OP will eventually have to get them evicted, considering their reaction. What do you think?
