In love with Dieguinho, a stray dog, Natália Marcondes, 27, who lives in Campinas, São Paulo, threw a themed party to celebrate one year since his adoption. And, surprisingly, Roberta Pardo was in attendance. Well, now you can imagine the party theme, right? It had to be RBD.

In an interview with Amo Meu Pet , Natália said that Dieguinho came into her life through the NGO KAPA Animal Protectors, where she volunteers. On Saturday mornings, the team takes walks with the dogs, and on one of these walks, Natália met Bruninho (now called Dieguinho) and fell in love.

“Since then, I haven’t had any peace [laughs]. He stayed on my mind, I would wake up in the middle of the night thinking about him, I would cry, I would wake my husband crying to talk about—until then—Bruninho. I even cried at work, he just wouldn’t leave my mind,” she recalled.

The dog won her heart! So she filled out the adoption form and was quickly approved. The pet arrived at his new home on March 19, 2022, coincidentally the same day he was rescued by the NGO four years ago.

“Diego has never been a problem! He lived in a cubicle for four years, so my 54 m² apartment is a real spa for him! He adapted really well. It was a very smooth adoption from the start,” she said.

Diego is not the only pet in the house, he has a little sister named Nina (at the party she was with Roberta Pardo), she is also the result of an adoption.

“She [Nina] appeared on the sidewalk in front of my house 11 years ago, on the eve of Mother’s Day. She was a very weak little girl.”

Initially, Natália was supposed to be a temporary home, as the family had two other pets. However, as time passed, Nina won everyone’s hearts and stayed. It was then that Natália moved to another city (where she currently lives) and took Nina with her. The two are inseparable.

“Until I met Vitor, my husband, who I joke was the one she chose! She fell in love with him the first time she saw him, and then I knew he was the one!” she declared.

Then Diego arrived to complete the family!

“She’s become a super sister! Since he’s still very afraid to leave the house (after all, everything is still very new to him), she protects him all the time. Diego can’t live without her; he knows she’s there to defend him at any cost.”

Completing a year since Dieguinho’s arrival, Natália felt moved to celebrate and as she is a big fan of the band RBD — Diego’s name was in honor of one of the characters in the Mexican soap opera: Diego Bustamante, Natália’s first love — she chose the romantic couple as the theme for the party: Diego and Roberta.

“It couldn’t be any other theme! And Nina couldn’t be left out! I found a red wig for my pet on AliExpress, bought it in January, and waited for it to arrive!”

In addition to dressing the pets as the characters, Natália used a poster of the couple (which she has kept since 2007) to compose the decoration, and even had a pet cupcake made.

Natália photographed, filmed and shared the moment in a Facebook group and it didn’t take long for the post to go viral, leaving her very happy with the repercussion.

Showing the joy of pets on such a special day for Diego was the way Natália found to encourage the adoption of adult dogs, as puppies are usually the most sought-after animals in shelters.

“I really hope people are inspired and consider adopting an adult pet. This was definitely our best choice.”

Natália ends the interview saying:

“Since I couldn’t adopt every animal I saw, volunteering was one of the things that gave me meaning in life. I’ve fostered many animals for the NGO @abrigoamigo, including two here who are super welcoming to pets. I still do very little, compared to what I’d like. But I feel like this is truly my mission on earth.”

I hope that Natália is very happy with her pets and that through her many dogs find loving homes.
