One day before his birthday, little Lucas Cardoso received from his parents, Josilane Cardoso and Herivelto Santos, the gift he had wanted for more than three months: a puppy.
The boy’s joy was indescribable when he received Thor, the family mascot, in his arms.
However, Thor was not a recent member of the family; he had been with them for some time.
On October 18, 2023, the pet disappeared and was found on January 18, 2024.
During the three months of his disappearance, Lucas, who was very attached to Thor, only did one thing: pray to God for his friend to return home safely.
And so it happened!
The disappearance
Josilane was leaving for work and, as she believed that Thor was with his mother, who takes care of her baby daughter while she is away, she didn’t notice that the pet ran away when she opened the door.

After an hour, the mother noticed the dog was missing and called her daughter, asking if she had taken Thor to the pet shop. At that moment, mother and daughter were desperate, realizing Thor was missing.
The family came together and began searching the neighborhood, putting up posters and posting on social media, using every means available to look for him.
Days passed, and no information led to Thor’s whereabouts. Lucas was desperate to find his four-legged friend, to the point that his school performance had dropped.
The teachers advised Josilane to adopt another dog, but Lucas didn’t want another pet, he wanted Thor.
“He cried, he woke up in the middle of the night asking for Thor,” Josilane told Amo Meu Pet .
A week passed, a month, two months, three months, and although no clues led to Thor, the family had not given up hope of finding him.
“Lucas prayed every night, he asked, his faith is very great, it’s so beautiful,” declared his mother.
The miracle happened!
On January 17, Josilane received a WhatsApp message from a stranger who sent a photo of a dog asking if it was the same one on the posters the family had distributed in the neighborhood.
And yes, it was him! Thor was with this stranger.
In the call Josilane made to the stranger, she informed them that the pet was very sick and that, if the family wanted him, they would have to pick him up as soon as possible, as the worst could happen.
Without delay, Josilane and Herivelto traveled about 60 km to where Thor was to rescue him. Lucas had no idea that the pet had been found.
The reunion
Thor and Lucas were reunited after the pet was taken to the vet for medical examinations, bathing and grooming.
“Thor stayed in the hospital for a night and the next day we surprised Lucas.”
Lucas knew he would get a gift, as it was the eve of his eighth birthday, but he had no idea how big the surprise would be.
“We had this wonderful surprise, it was incredibly emotional,” he concluded.
