An unusual friendship caught the attention of the staff at the Wake County Animal Center (WCAC) animal shelter, located in North Carolina, United States.

Since arriving in mid-March, Cinnamon and Felix, a goat and a dog, have captivated staff and volunteers with their charming bond. Separating them, as they are different species, wasn’t an option; they refused to be apart.

“Initially, we were going to separate them at night because there was no one at the shelter to monitor them, but they wouldn’t allow it,” Dr. Jennifer Federico, DVM, director of animal services for Wake County government, told The Dodo .

The pair ended up at the shelter because their previous owner was no longer able to care for them. WCAC doesn’t work with farm animals, but knowing the strong bond between the goat and the dog, they couldn’t reject her and brought her to the shelter as well.

And the previous owner didn’t need to talk about Cinnamon and Felix’s relationship, the team noticed right away, as they were inseparable for a minute.

When they arrived at the NGO, they became even closer—I believe they were comforting each other for being in an unfamiliar place.

“We could walk the dog from where the kennels are to our little dog park area, and we wouldn’t put a leash on the goat—Cinnamon would just follow,” Dr. Federico said.

The pair ate, slept, and played together, and when they were apart, they were visibly sad. Cinnamon suffered the most, screaming or banging her head against the door. Leaving them apart was out of the question.

“Goats are social animals, just like dogs, so when they’re together, it makes sense that they’d find friendship,” Dr. Federico said in a press release . “Whatever the reason for these two coming together, it’s clear that the best thing for their well-being is to keep them together.”

To avoid separating them, WCAC asked the rescue center for help. The Mr. Mo Project, based in New York, searched for a farm that could house them, so Cinnamon could interact with other goats, knowing Felix was nearby.

“All the pieces fell into place,” Federico said. “Their new mother has a herd of goats, and she has room to take Cinnamon and Felix. They’re even building a separate pasture for Cinnamon so she’s separated from the other goats for now and can transition appropriately.”

The doctor believes that Cinnamon has not interacted with other animals of his species and that is why he became attached to Felix.

She says she’s excited to see the little goat thrive in her new home, make new friends, and of course, have her canine friend always nearby.

Robin and Teddy are another duo that won the internet’s heart for their unusual friendship.

Robin is an Australian Shepherd and Teddy is a horse. The two belong to young Emily Sebryk and took a liking to each other from the very first moment.

These days, they can’t live without each other and their fun. Robin loves to hitch a ride on his friend’s back, and Teddy loves to take his friend for a walk.
