After reading through the Reddit comments, it’s clear that many sympathize with the original poster’s stance. Being diabetic means she must always be prepared for sudden drops in blood sugar, and having the sugary juice on hand is a crucial safety measure for her health. While her niece’s sensory issues and discomfort are valid concerns, her priority understandably lies with managing her diabetes, especially during an active outing like hiking. The situation highlights the challenge of balancing the needs of multiple family members, especially when health and sensory sensitivities are involved.

In my opinion, the family could have handled this with more understanding and communication. Perhaps bringing an additional bottle of apple juice or a sensory-friendly alternative for the niece would have prevented the conflict altogether. While it’s important to accommodate the niece’s needs, respecting the diabetic family member’s safety measures is non-negotiable. Ultimately, empathy and preparation on all sides can help avoid such stressful moments during family activities.
