A look at those who were abandoned, that’s what a man named Wesley did when he went to an animal shelter and took the dogs that no one wanted to adopt for a walk.

These dogs, many of them large, were rejected, returned or simply ignored by potential adopters.

They have a lot of energy to burn, but unfortunately this is not possible, as they spend most of their time locked in their kennels.

Thinking about this and the well-being of these rejected animals, Wesley took a noble step: he took them for a run.

A moment in which, in addition to leaving the small cubicles that shelter them, they receive individual attention, affection and still have the opportunity to use up all the energy they have.

On this occasion, the man took three dogs for a run – because, you have to be patient, right?

The chosen ones were Cindy, Rooster and Hondo, all looking for a good active home, as the good Samaritan explained.

Cindy, the young lady of the ride, has been returned to the shelter twice from adoption. During the ride, Wesley said she didn’t want to run, “she just wants to sniff haha (working on it).”

But the simple fact that she was noticed and had this precious time with someone who gave her a moment outside of the shelter was enough to make her happy, and in the end, that’s what matters.

Rooster and Hondo gave the volunteer a run for his money, and thanks to his large, athletic build and pent-up energy, he managed to break his personal best in the race. Need better incentive than that?

“How are Rooster and Hondo doing in a shelter? Oh my gosh, absolute shelter gems. They’re nervous, but they would do well in an active home,” the volunteer noted.

Wesley captured every moment, from the dogs’ excitement upon leaving their shelter kennels to their walk outside. It’s a touching moment to see how happy they were with something so simple: a run.

“Come run with shelter dogs that no one wants to adopt,” he said.

Volunteering

A survey carried out by the World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that Brazil has 30 million abandoned animals, of which 10 million are cats and 20 million are dogs.

To try to change this reality, volunteers at Fazenda Modelo, a public animal shelter in Guaratiba, Rio de Janeiro, seek to improve quality of life and encourage adoptions.

One of the ways they help socialize animals that arrive scared is to encourage visits from the public, as Lupa do Bem reports .

According to Priscila Arrais, one of the shelter’s oldest employees, the shelter encourages the public to visit the animals, walk them, and pet them.

Fortunately, this is a successful proposal and already has around 40 regular volunteers who meet every Saturday, in addition to visitors who come to the shelter to help sporadically.

Another group of volunteers are the trainers, who meet every Monday. “One of them is a friend of mine; after I started talking about the Farm, he started coming every week. Since he also teaches training classes, he started bringing his students. There were days when we had 10 trainers at once.”

In other words, unity truly is strength, and this is a beautiful example of that. May it serve as inspiration for more people!
