A giant , 125-pound gray and white pit bull was found alone in a park, tied to a bench.

Later named Gordough, the dog was visibly ill, covered in scabs and with skin and eye infections.

But luckily for him, rescuers from the Austin Humane Society (AHS) in the United States crossed his path.

“He had skin and eye infections and was in desperate need of medicated baths, eye drops and ointments to treat them,” the 15/10 foundation wrote on Facebook .

Despite being cruelly abandoned and visibly in pain, Gordough wagged his tail enthusiastically as AHS rescuers approached.

A comforting pat on the head was enough for him to understand that he could trust his new friends.

AHS staff could immediately tell that Gordough was a patient boy, but it wasn’t until they returned to the shelter that they realized just how special he was.

In an AHS Facebook post , the pit bull is described as a giant with a sweet and gentle demeanor.

“Gordough instantly became a staff favorite, and it’s easy to see why!” the post reads.

The 15/10 Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting shelter dogs with medical needs, has pledged to cover Gordough’s medical expenses.

Thanks to their help, Gordough received the necessary treatment.

Gordough’s skin condition required immediate attention, but the lovable giant was unfazed by all the fuss.

Dubbed the “Zen Master” by the shelter, he sat calmly as his new friends bathed him and barely reacted to the various ointments applied to his body.

“Gordough is like one of those reclining Happy Buddha statues come to life,” Austin Humane Society officials told the 10/15 Foundation.

After surviving traumatic abandonment, the resilient young man was just happy to finally be loved.

Soon, he found a temporary home where he could continue recovering in a cozy environment.

Just like on AHS, Gordough quickly won the hearts of his foster parents.

They planned to care for him temporarily, but soon realized he should be a permanent member of the family .

A month after AHS staff found him in the park, Gordough was officially adopted by his foster family.

Now, he spends his days snuggled up with his favorite humans on the couch and playing with his favorite toys between naps.

His body has completely recovered, and he smiles as if he has only known love.

With the memory of his difficult past now far behind him, Gordough is finally living the life he always dreamed of.

And his friends at AHS and the 10/15 Foundation couldn’t be happier for him.

“Now that he has recovered from his skin and eye infections, this big guy is free to start his new life,” the 15/10 Foundation wrote.

Pit bull: a true gentle giant

Contrary to what many people think about the breed, the pit bull is an extremely docile and friendly dog.

Precisely for this reason, they do not perform well as guard dogs , according to the Brazilian Kennel Club (CBKC).

“The American Pit Bull Terrier is not the best choice for those looking for a guard dog because it is extremely friendly, even with strangers.”
